Responsible gambling at Betsio
Start playingOpening this page usually means one of two things: something about your own play has started to feel off, or you want to know what tools sit behind the games before you deposit. Either reason is a good one. This page sets out what Betsio offers and where to go if you need more than we can provide.
Why responsible gambling matters
Gambling is entertainment with a real cost attached, and the odds are built to favour the house over time. Treating it as a way to fix money problems, or as something owed to you after a losing run, is where harm tends to start. Betsio's tools exist to keep the decision about how much and how often in your hands, not the game's.
Signs gambling is getting out of hand
None of these on their own is proof of a problem, but a pattern of them is worth acting on rather than watching:
- Chasing losses with bigger stakes to "win it back"
- Borrowing, or dipping into money set aside for bills, to keep playing
- Hiding deposit amounts or session length from people close to you
- Feeling irritable or anxious when you try to stop
- Gambling replacing sleep, work or time with family
Questions worth asking yourself
A short honest check, not a diagnosis:
- Have you gambled longer than you planned to more than once this month?
- Have you lied about how much you've deposited?
- Do you feel you need to gamble to feel normal?
- Has a deposit ever gone straight from money meant for something else?
- Have you tried to cut down and found you couldn't?
- Does losing lead to a bigger bet rather than stopping?
Answering yes to two or more is a reasonable point to use one of the tools below, or to talk to an organisation that specialises in this.
The tools we offer
Betsio's self-exclusion runs on fixed periods: 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, 6 months or 1 year. Each blocks account access for the duration you pick, with no way to shorten it once it's set. If you need longer, contacting support directly can arrange self-exclusion of between 6 months and 5 years.
Reversing a permanent exclusion
A permanent self-exclusion can be lifted, but only on written request, and it carries a mandatory 7-day cooling-off period before the account is reactivated. That gap is deliberate: it removes the option of reversing a decision made in the moment.
Deposit and time limits
We recommend setting your own deposit and time limits before you start a session, and keeping them below what you could comfortably lose without consequence. Reviewing them after a big win or a rough week, rather than leaving them fixed indefinitely, keeps them meaningful.
Practical limits that work
- Decide your stake for the session before you deposit, not while you're playing
- Use a separate card or balance for gambling money, away from bills and rent
- Set a time limit on your phone rather than relying on willpower alone
- Treat a loss as the end of the session, not a reason to deposit again
- Take the 24-hour break option after any session that ran longer than planned
Where to get help in the UK
Free, confidential support exists outside Betsio and is worth using if the questions above landed close to home. GamCare runs the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, free and available 24/7. BeGambleAware offers advice and support tools, and GamStop provides free self-exclusion across all UK-licensed gambling sites at once, which goes further than exclusion from a single operator. For residential or more intensive treatment, Gordon Moody is a dedicated option.
Blocking software
Gamban and BetBlocker (free, works across most devices) block gambling sites at device level, which helps when self-exclusion alone isn't enough because a new account is only a search away.
Protecting minors
Betsio is restricted to players aged 18+. If a device you use is shared with a child, parental control software such as Net Nanny or Qustodio can block gambling content at the household level rather than relying on account settings alone.
Questions about any of the above can go to [email protected]. Gambling should be entertainment, not a chore.
Access to this site is restricted to persons aged 18 and over (18+). If gambling stops feeling like entertainment, free and confidential support is available at BeGambleAware.org.
